From Arosa to Arosa
as a local in Arosa
I grew up in Arosa – just as several generations of my family did before me. Consequently, Arosa is far more to me than just my home town. My family, my friends, sport and our businesses are closely linked to this place and have had a significant influence on my life so far.
I attended school in Arosa until the sixth year of primary school. After that, I went on to grammar school in Chur. From the age of 13 to 19, I lived at the boarding school in Chur whilst I was at school. Those years were a formative time for me. On the one hand, it meant spending a large part of the week away from Arosa from a young age and becoming more independent. On the other hand, my connection to Arosa always remained.
Ice hockey played a particularly important role in this. Throughout my time in Arosa, ice hockey was an integral part of my life. At the same time, over the years I built up a large circle of friends in Arosa, who remain an important part of my life to this day.
After finishing secondary school, I returned to Arosa and began to play an active role in our family businesses. This allowed me to get to know the various areas of our company from a completely new perspective. What I had previously witnessed from the sidelines as a child and teenager was now increasingly becoming part of my own day-to-day working life.
I gained an insight into Home Sweet Home interior design, the Home Hotel and, later on, the catering business. In the process, I quickly realised just how multifaceted a family business is and how varied the day-to-day challenges can be. From direct contact with guests and customers, through to staff, organisation and finances, right up to investments, refurbishments and new business ideas, our work encompasses a wide range of different areas.
In 2021, I began studying law at the University of Bern. However, it was clear to me from the outset that, despite my studies, I wanted to continue playing an active role in our businesses. That is why, alongside my studies, I regularly helped out at the businesses in Arosa.
During my first year of university, I also completed the G1 catering seminar. My aim was not only to gain practical experience in the catering industry, but also to deepen my understanding of the fundamentals of business administration and catering. Given the growing importance of the catering sector within our company, it was particularly important to me to gain a better professional understanding of this field.
A particularly significant step followed in 2024. I had the great privilege of taking over my mother’s shares and, in doing so, assuming greater responsibility for our family business at a corporate level. For me, this was not merely a formal step, but above all a great sign of trust and, at the same time, a commitment to what my parents had built up over many years.
With this new responsibility, I began to focus even more closely on the long-term development of our companies. My aim is not only to build on what we have achieved so far, but also to contribute new ideas and work together to shape the next stages of our development.
The development of Charlie’s marked the creation of another key part of our family business. Together, we wanted to create a place that combines down-to-earth hospitality with culinary influences from different countries. For me, Charlie’s was also an opportunity to engage even more deeply with catering, marketing, organisation and the further development of our own concept.
In 2026, I completed my Bachelor of Law at the University of Bern. Since then, I have been continuing my studies with a Master of Law. For me, studying law is an important complement to my entrepreneurial activities. It teaches me to analyse complex issues in a structured way, to consider problems from different perspectives, and to assess decisions in terms of their legal and long-term implications.
I find the link between my studies and practical experience particularly valuable. Whilst I explore legal issues at university, my experience in the family business gives me a first-hand insight into the challenges that entrepreneurs actually face on a day-to-day basis. Employment law, contracts, construction projects, property, finance, human resources management and the numerous regulatory requirements in the hotel and catering industries constantly remind me of how closely law and entrepreneurship are intertwined.
These days, I am becoming increasingly involved in the further development of our various businesses. I am particularly interested in new business ideas, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and the question of how traditional companies can use new technologies to become more efficient whilst also making themselves more attractive to customers and guests.
However, I never want to forget where our businesses have their roots. Arosa is my home. A large part of my family lives here, my circle of friends is here, and this is where I grew up. Through sport, school, our businesses and village life, I have deep ties to Arosa.
That is precisely why I am also interested in the town’s long-term development. Arosa relies heavily on tourism, but at the same time it is also a place where locals, families and businesses live and work. I see this as offering numerous opportunities to develop new ideas, build on existing offerings and help ensure that Arosa remains an attractive place to live, work and visit in the future.
Home Sweet Home, the Home Hotel and Charlie’s have now joined forces to form Home Arosa. For me, this means, on the one hand, taking on responsibility for something that my parents have built up over many years. On the other hand, I see it as an opportunity to bring my own perspective to the table and to develop the business step by step.
My aim is to preserve the values and distinctive character of our family business, whilst remaining open to change. For me, tradition and innovation need not be at odds with one another. On the contrary, it is precisely in the combination of the two that a great opportunity lies.
My story is therefore closely linked to Arosa – to my family, my circle of friends, ice hockey, our businesses and the many experiences I have been fortunate enough to gain here. At the same time, with my Master’s degree and my growing responsibilities within the family business, I am only just at the start of a new chapter.
I am looking forward to continuing on this path and, together with my family, helping to shape the next generation of Home Arosa.
